Jayasurya, who has completed shooting for the investigative thriller John Luther, will once again be seen in a story revolving around cops in debutant director Ravisankar’s Writer. The film’s first look poster, which had an old case file wrapped in an amulet with a lizard on it, was unveiled on Sunday.
Talking to OTTplay about the film, its scriptwriter Shahi Kabir, who had earlier scripted police thrillers such as Joju George’s Joseph and Kunchacko Boban’s Nayattu , tells us, “Writer is extremely different from the previous two films. It has a police story but that is just one aspect of it.”
Ask him if the movie has any connection to Samuthirakani’s Tamil film of the same name and the writer says, “Not at all. This is a different movie. All I can reveal right now is that certain portions of the movie are inspired by real-life incidents. We have only started work on the film right now, and will be confirming the rest of the cast in the coming months.”
The film is expected to go on floors in September with Kozhikode being the prime location. Jayasurya is set to join the film after he completes shooting for Rojin Thomas’ 3D fantasy thriller Kathanar. Writer will also mark the debut directorial of Ravisankar, who had co-written Rani Padmini with Syam Pushkaran and also served as additional scriptwriter and associate director of Mammootty-Amal Neerad’s upcoming movie Bheeshma Parvam.
Meanwhile, Shahi has also completed shooting for his directorial debut Ilaveezhapoonchira, which has Soubin Shahir, Suddhi Koppa and Jude Anthany Joseph playing pivotal characters. The film is scripted by two police officers – Nidhish G and Shaji Maarad. On the movie’s status, Shahi tells us, “We have completed the work and the movie is expected to release by April or May.”
