In the past few years, there’s probably no other actor who has used his surging popularity to support experimental films than Joju George. Soon, the Nayattu actor will be seen in debutant Sanfeer’s movie Peace, which is gearing up for release.
On the movie, Sanfeer tells OTTplay, “The movie is a comedy-drama-thriller and the story is told through a hyperlink format. There’s an experimental approach. Also, because my primary field of work involved research as a scientist, this film’s content is sort of an update to what we have seen in similar films such as Aadu, Double Barrel and Ramji Rao Speaking in the past; at least that is what we have tried to do.”
Joju plays a character named Carlos in the film. “It’s an aged role as he plays the father of Aditi Ravi’s character. Though he is an Anglo-Indian, we don’t say that explicitly in the story; it is shown through his costumes, attitude and name.”
Apart from Joju and Aditi, Peace also has an ensemble cast featuring Remya Nambeesan, Siddique, Pauly Valsan, Asha Sharath, Shalu Rahim and Mammukkoya. “All of them play characters that they hadn’t essayed before. Also, for some of the roles, there really was no other alternative. For instance, Siddique was the best fit for his character,” says the director.
Sanfeer, who worked as a scientist, says that he had written almost 10 scripts before Peace. “Cinema wasn’t my field of expertise, but I used to write. I mostly wanted to do offbeat films, and I used to pitch these scripts to a lot of actors. I used to get feedback for these and so kept on improving them. That’s also how I pitched a script to Joju chettan. Though we couldn’t work on it then due to date clashes, it got pushed to later and we collaborated in Peace,” says the filmmaker, adding that the film is ready for release.
