After helming acclaimed films Melvilasom and Apothecary, Malayalam filmmaker Madhav Ramadasan is all set to make his Tamil debut with a movie starring R Sarathkumar in the lead. The filmmaker, whose previous release was Ilayaraja in 2018, revealed the details of the upcoming movie, which is scheduled to go on floors in September.

“The movie is a survival thriller set against the backdrop of the sea. We will be shooting extensively at sea for the movie,” says the director. “It doesn’t have too many characters apart from Sarath Kumar.”

Madhav had met the actor in Chennai to narrate the script and soon the star had given the nod soon after the narration. The filmmaker also took to his social networking page to share the news on Friday.

The reason for telling the story in Tamil, the director says, “We wanted to do it on a bigger scale and so making it in Tamil would also give it a wider reach. More importantly, it’s a survival thriller and so it will have a universal connect. I have also tried to embed certain philosophical bits to the story.”

The director also explains that he is currently in the process of confirming the technical crew of the film. Sarathkumar, meanwhile, has been busy with several films including Rudhran and Vijay’s Varisu.

The Tamil star has been picking a variety of roles that also showcase his side as a performer since his comeback. In an interview with OTTplay last year, the actor said that he has shed the “image problem” he had early in his career when he became a superstar and is currently enjoying this phase where he can just look at the character. “It helps be explore more as a performer,” he said, adding that he is looking to play more roles that excite him as an actor.
