It’s been a year since Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph’s acclaimed Drishyam 2 released on Amazon Prime Video and rewrote OTT records for a Malayalam film. The duo is now gearing up for the release of their next collaboration, 12th Man, which has a bevy of actors as part of the cast.

The movie, which is a mystery scripted by KR Krishna Kumar, has a cast featuring Mohanlal, Sshivada, Saiju Kurup, Unni Mukundan, G Chandhunath, Veena Nandakumar, Priyanka Nair, Rahul Madhav, Aditi Ravi, Leona Lishoy and Anu Mohan.

Now, OTTplay has exclusively learnt from a highly-placed source from the team that the makers had been in talks with Disney+ Hotstar to release the film. “The movie will mostly release on Hotstar. The team has almost finished the post production of 12th Man, and the film’s trailer will be released online soon,” says the source.

Aashirvad Cinemas, which produced 12th Man, had last month sold the rights of their production Bro Daddy to Disney+ Hotstar too. The latter film, which has Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead, was reportedly the first film to receive the “biggest opening in terms of subscription” on the platform across languages and was also the second most-watched movie within a day of its release on January 26.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Mohanlal had confirmed that 12th Man has been finalised for an OTT release and the deal has been inked. The superstar said that the makers were banking on the interest of seeing the Drishyam 2 duo team up again to bring in the views for the movie. “Let there be a market for Malayalam cinema in OTTs too. The platforms will pick more movies from the language only if there are successful films coming out,” said Mohanlal, who also has B Unnikrishnan’s Aaraattu, Vysakh’s Monster and Shaji Kailas’ Alone set for release this year.
