Since the pandemic, scriptwriter Udaykrishna has also penned the screenplay for two Mohanlal-starrers – B Unnikrishnan’s Aarattu and Vysakh’s Monster. As the former ‘mass’ entertainer is gearing up for release on February 18, the writer of superhit films tells OTTplay about Monster, which marks the second collaboration of the Pulimurugan team.

Monster has Mohanlal playing a character named Lucky Singh. The first look posters hinted that he is an investigative officer. Ask Udaykrishna about the same and he tells us, “Lucky Singh is a suspense character and Monster is a movie with a lot of unexpected twists. When I approach a script, I either take the route that the audience expects it to travel or bring twists and turns that the viewers don’t see coming. Those are two types of formula and I have used the former for Aaraattu and the latter for Monster.”

While the scriptwriter is tight-lipped about the Vysakh directorial, which was shot extensively in Kochi, he does tell us, “It’s a film that has a premise, which is different from all my previous scripts. It’s an experimental film. I have kept aside the ingredients that are often seen in my movies for Monster, which is a thriller.”

Monster, which is produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, also has Lakshmi Manchu, Sudev Nair and Durga Krishna as part of the cast. The filming of the movie was completed in 55 days.

Meanwhile, Udaykrishna is gearing up for the release of Aaraattu, a ‘mass’ entertainer that is right up his alley. The movie revolves around Neyyattinkara Gopan, who comes to a village to make a deal, but ends up creating more trouble than he encounters, leaving the residents to take care of the ruckus.

The film also has Shraddha Srinath, Ramachandra Raju, Nedumudi Venu, Sidhique, Saikumar and AR Rahman, who will be playing himself in a cameo.
