Director Jeethu Joseph’s upcoming movie Ram, which will be released in two instalments, has been challenging for him for several reasons. The Mohanlal-starrer, which was delayed due to the pandemic, was scaled up when it finally resumed shooting after more than two years. The delay notwithstanding, the film also came with it sets of unique challenges as it had to reimagined in a grander scale and shot in various countries including the UK, Tunisia and Morocco.

In a recent interview with OTTPlay, Jeethu talked about why the film had to be scaled up and how that also made room for more action scenes, something that he enjoys doing as a filmmaker.

“It’s a challenge. Firstly, even when the movie was delayed, the producers had stood by us. They were confident about the film’s content. Ram is also made on a considerably big budget; it could be one of the most expensive Malayalam films to come out,” he says.

On the action scenes in the film, which also has Trisha and Indrajith Sukumaran, the Drishyam filmmaker says, “This is an ‘mass’ action movie, but that said it’s not typical Indian ‘mass’ film. We have ensured that stunt sequences are realistic. Ram is a hero but he’s not a larger-than-life character. That’s the kind of making that this film entails, and we have brought in foreign technicians to work in the action scenes. Those are key reasons for the film’s grandeur as well as its budget to increase.”

The director also explained that the movie’s story spans several countries due to the protagonist’s profession. “The story also demands various locations across the world. Ram’s character is pan-world in the sense that he can travel across the globe. The incidents are also conceived like that; there are a lot of events in the film that happen outside India,” he said.
