Mrunal Thakur has added another movie to her increasing filmography, director Gowtam Tinnanuri's Hindi remake of Jersey, which has Shahid Kapoor as the male lead. The 28-year-old actress believes that this film is probably her co-star's best outing so far.
In an exclusive interaction with OTTplay, just a day before Jersey was released, Thakur spoke about her new movie and praised her co-actor Kapoor.
"I think this is Shahid's best performance in his career. After Haider, which will always be a close one for me," says the actress before adding that working with Kapoor has taught her how to focus in order to get into "the skin of a character".
While Kapoor plays Arjun whose life takes a turn for the better but not without some hiccups, Thakur is seen as his wife Vidhya, who isn't exactly a pillar of support for him. But not without cause.
The critics seem to be completely in favour of Kapoor's strong, emotional performance in the drama where cricket takes a backseat in favour of a father-son bond, and more. However, Jersey is struggling a little on the box office end, with KGF: Chapter 2 still being patronised by moviegoers. Still, the new movie's prospects don't seem all that bad.
For Thakur, who started her acting career with the TV show Kumkum Bhagya and made her feature debut with Love Sonia (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar), this is another successful venture to find a place in her growing filmography.
Next up for the actress is Sita Ramam with Dulquer Salmaan, which recently wrapped its shoot, followed by a war drama Pippa, and the remake of 2019 Tamil crime-thriller Thadam.
Jersey is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and also stars Pankaj Kapur. It is now playing in cinemas.
