Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne – Satyajit Ray’s 1969 classic – has the genre of Indian fantasy adventure comedy. Based on his grandfather Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury’s book, the film is still considered to be one of the iconic works in children’s film. Now, the characters of these magical duo, singer Goopy Gyne and drummer Bagha Byne will be recreated on the big screen by director Pavel.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Pavel said, “This is a script that I penned four years ago. It is not just about Goopy Bagha. It is something beyond and I am not at the liberty of revealing many details but nothing has been formalised yet. I am sure that one day, I will surely make this film. The director has also agreed that he is in talks with a number of production houses.
As per media reports, Soham will be seen in one of the pivotal roles in the film. To this, Pavel said, “Soham is a dear friend and we are often seen together. There has not been any final decision on who will play what character in the film. Right now, my focus is on the release of Kolkata Chalontika that will hit the theatre on August 26.”
Pavel’s Kolkata Chalontika, which features Ishaa Saha, Sourav Das, Aparajita Adhya, Ditipriya Roy, Kiran Dutta, Anirban Chakrabarty and others, is based on a real-life accident. In 2016, the under-construction Posta flyover collapsed. In the film, Ishaa and Sourav will be seen as homeless residents who bear the brunt of the accident. Kharaj will be seen as a politician, Aparajita Adhya, as a lawyer, Ditipriya, as a civil engineer and so on. “We are looking forward to the release and the promotion is in full swing. Any other announcement is likely to take place after Kolkata Chalontika is released,” said Pavel.
