Actress Nupur Sanon - who is making her OTT debut with Farhad Samji-directed new web series, Pop Kaun, on Disney+ Hotstar - has said that she was initially apprehensive about doing a comedy series, considering in most comedy shows, women do not get meaty roles. However, after hearing the script she jumped into it.

In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Nupur said, “I think everyone should take one script narration from Farhad sir, considering the way he narrates a script. He does that with every detail - including background music, camera close-up, zoom-out and singing songs - one can really see the entire show through the narration. I found it so entertaining just by hearing it. I remember I heard six episodes at one go! I could see Pihu in the show as well as a few scenes. I heard three scenes, specifically the ones that were so quirky that I decided that there is no way I am not doing the show.”

Since comedy is a genre where many a time, female characters do not get to play interesting characters, Nupur was not sure of taking up the project, since it’s also her debut web series. “Initially, I thought that all his earlier films were comedies, but those are like the Housefull franchise where it’s slapstick comedy. I did not know if I would get a meaty role to play, which I wanted for my debut project. When I heard the story, I realised that she is throughout the journey… Pihu and Sahil wanted to get married and that is when the real search for his father starts! Also, I loved the fact that every character has some nuance and quirk that is making them funny and eventually leading to the end search,” the actress elaborated.

Nupur has earlier appeared in a music video with Akshay Kumar. Pop Kaun is both written and directed by Farhad Samji. It also stars Saurabh Shukla, Johny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Kunal Kemmu, Ashwini Kalsekar and the late Satish Kaushik. The series is all set to release on March 17 on Disney+ Hotstar.
