She’s been a star down South, and now Regina Cassandra is making her mark in the Hindi entertainment space, more specifically in the OTT space. Lately, the actor has been making her presence felt in some of the best shows and films across languages, such as Rocket Boys, Farzi, Anya’s Tutorial, and Jaanbaaz Hindustan Ke. She was last seen in the Telugu film Saakini Daakini, and her next is the Tamil film Borrder with Arun Vijay and Stefy Patel. Little wonder then that Regina was given the Disruptive Star of the Year (Female) award at the recently-held OTTplay Changemakers Awards 2023.

Considering that she is now a well-known face across the country, we asked Regina how she balances her work in the South Indian and Hindi entertainment industries and if awards are a means of validation for her. Excerpts from an exclusive conversation right after Regina won her latest award...

How does it feel to win the Disruptive Star of the Year (Female) award?
It feels really good. This is my second award for my OTT appearances, so it feels really nice.

Who are the changemakers in your life?
I can't pick just one person who is a changemaker in my life, because I think that all the women in my life are changemakers. It is everyone who is doing the balancing act between family and work and trying to make a mark for themselves, make a difference for other women, and inspire them along the way. So, all the women I know, from my mother to the women on my team, are changemakers.

It’s interesting that you spoke about striking a balance, since you have been doing a balancing act between your career in the South and the Hindi entertainment space. How do you manage that?
Thanks for asking me that because it's a pretty tough job. When people see a lot more of my Hindi work coming out, my friends and fans ask me when my next Tamil or Telugu release is going to be. It is actually quite exciting to hear that, because that way I know that people want to see more of me. I'm trying to do it all. So, it's not easy, but it's fun.

How important is this award to you? Does it give you a sense of validation?
I don't know if I should give it the kind of importance that would make everything else subdued around it. But I think recognising someone for whatever they are doing is definitely positive reinforcement. So, being positively reinforced for something that you've been doing for the longest time is always a good thing.
