Exclusive! Ritabhari Chakraborty: In reply to the trolls, I gained 15 kilos more to work in a body-positivity film, Fatafati

Body shaming is a dark reality that is hard to escape, especially on social media. However, Ritabhari Chakraborty has no time for such trolls. The actress has recently completed shooting for Aritra Mukherjee’s Fatafati. Recently when the actress was trolled for gaining weight, she signed for a film that talks about body positivity. To work in the film, the actress gained 15 kg to portray the character. The film also features Abir Chatterjee in the lead.

Ritabhari went through two critical surgeries between 2020 and 2021 and it was after her recovery the actress gained weight. Soon after her first public appearance, she was trolled on social media for gaining weight. “It was also one of the most critical phases of my life. I was physically unwell and was fighting depression. This body-shaming did not help. However, it is during that phase I learned how to prioritize my health. I embraced my pain and healed,” the actress told exclusively to OTTPlay.

Instead of being perturbed by the trolls, Ritabhari signed for a film that champions body positivity. “In reply to the trolls, I gained 15 more kilos to fit in the character for Fatafati. That was also a defining moment of my life,” she told us.

In a recent interview with a newspaper, Ritabhari explained how she fell in love with her beau Dr Tathagata Chatterjee. “He saw me in the most emotionally vulnerable state. There was a time when I kept on chasing work without paying any attention to my health. He helped me embrace my difficulties and prioritise myself,” she said.

The shooting of Fatafati started on April third week and ended on May 20. “I am taking a break till mid-June. then I will be back with my schedule. There is music and some other works lined up. But before anything else, I will need a break,” she told us.

Ritabhari was last seen in Aritra's Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti, in which she plays the character of a Female priest who challenges patriarchy in our society.
