Director Kamaleswar Mukherjee is all set to debut in docu feature with Robinson Street Horror Story: Myth or Reality on Hoichoi. Based on the 2015’s unsettling incident that took place at Partha De’s residence at Robinson Street, the documentary feature will be dropped on March 15. Loknath Dey and Amay Deb Roy play the character of Partha De in the documentary feature.
In 2015, the chilling saga of Partha De shook the country. His harrowing real-life ordeal, marked by the discovery of his cohabitation with the skeletons of his sister and two pet dogs in their ancestral Robinson Street residence for over six months is now captured by Kamaleswar and his team. Partha De’s father had tragically committed suicide by self-immolation inside the bathroom of their Robinson Street residence. The authorities discovered the skeletons of Partha’s sister, Debjani De, and their pet Labradors, Rickie, and Terry, upon entering the house to recover his father's body.
“It took us two years to gather information. Amay Debnath, Shubhadip Ganguly, Taparati Ganguli, and Swaralipi Dasgupta researched by talking to the concerned people. We mainly spoke with psychologists, psychiatrists, investigating officers, mental health activists, and others who were involved. We also gathered news articles, video clips, and other materials used to depict the story” said Kamaleswar.
The series will delve into the intricate details of the case, exploring what, where, and how the unimaginable incident panned out in Partha De’s mind. According to the makers, the series goes into the various facets of Partha De’s life, encompassing his childhood, adulthood, work life, and more, providing viewers with a comprehensive understanding of his story.
Documentary feature is not a common trend in the Bengali OTT industry. What were the challenges Kamaleswar faced? “It is not easy to get hold of the right resources. This time also, we worked hard but the team finally did it,” he said.

The incident that unfolded in Robinson Street in 2015 is evidently one of the most unsettling businesses in recent history. It shook the nation with its grim details. What was Kamaleswar’s realisation after dealing with a matter so grim? “Based on my own medical knowledge and after talking to a number of psychologists, psychiatrists, and mental health rights activists, I realised that we live in an ableist society. Here everybody is expected to be physically and emotionally equipped to carry out a livelihood. Based on this we judge people. Let’s not be judgemental without knowing a person. This is what I realised after talking to rights activists and rigorously working on this project,” he said.
