National Award-winning actor Saurabh Shukla has said that his upcoming comedy web series Pop Kaun, which is written and directed by Farhad Samji, offered him something exciting and challenging at the same time. As a performer, it put him outside of his comfort zone.
When asked how he first reacted to the story of Pop Kaun, Saurabh told OTTplay, “I was laughing so much while hearing the narration that I fell off from the chair. It was a great script, really. I am a huge fan of such a comedy, which is fast-paced, borderline slapstick and has punchlines too. As an audience member, I love watching such comedies, but as an actor, it is not my cup of tea. It is not my comfort zone. So, when Farhad came to me, I told him that this could be a challenge for me, because I did not try this genre before. But after hearing the script, mujhe kaafi maza aaya, and I took it up.”
The veteran actor is known for delivering some of the finest performances in films like - Satya, Taal, Hey Ram, Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!, Nayak: The Real Hero, Barfi!, Jolly LLB, Raid and PK, among many others. He has also appeared in web series like The Verdict - State vs Nanavati and Dahan: Raakan Ka Rahasya in the past.
The story of Pop Kaun revolves around Sahil, played by Kunal Kemmu. The series is one of the last projects of veteran actor Satish Kaushik, who passed away on March 9.
Directed by Fahad Samji Pop Kaun? It also stars Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Chunky Panday and Ashwini Kalsekar. The series is all set to release on March 17 on Disney+ Hotstar.
