In his 20-year-long career as a leading man in Bollywood, Shahid Kapoor saw one of his biggest commercial successes in 2019 with the film Kabir Singh. The film was made on a budget of Rs 60 crore and made around Rs 379 crore at the box office. It was only natural then that his fans assumed that the actor would sign multiple films after that to make the most of his success.

But, to everyone's surprise, Shahid's next project was a web series. He made his OTT debut with Farzi, directed by Raj and DK, for Amazon Prime Video.

Now that the actor is gearing up for his next project, a feature film titled Bloody Daddy, which is interestingly also releasing on an OTT platform (JioCinema), Shahid opens up about how he enjoys spending more time with his character while working on a long-format story.

Shahid told OTTplay, "I think the best thing about working on a character for a long format, like a web series, is exploring the graph of the character and the performance along with it. For example, when I was doing Haider, I felt that there were many layers of Hamlet that I could have brought to the character, but I could not show them since there is a time constraint when it comes to films. I spent a lot of time with Sunny (referring to his character in Farzi), so from episode one to episode eight, the audience could see a big character graph, which we were able to achieve seamlessly."

"So, to be able to justify the transformation of a character and to be able to do so smoothly, a long format is much easier than a film," added the actor, who is loved for his performances in films like Ishq Vishk, Jab We Met, Kaminey, Haider, and Udta Punjab, among others.

In director Ali Abbas Zafar's Bloody Daddy, Shahid plays an NCB officer named Sumair. The story of the film is set one night in Gurgaon.

The film also stars Ronit Roy, Sanjay Kapoor, and Rajeev Khandelwal and will be available to stream on JioCinema starting June 9.
