Theatre worker, actress, and acting coach Sohag Sen produces a play from his school, Ensemble Kolkata, regularly. This year, she is all set to stage Bheeti, which will feature Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, Sutapa Ghosh, Kaushik Bose, Soma Mukherjee, Bishal, and Rishav. Sohag Sen is currently playing a key character in Cheeni which streams on Disney+ Hotster.

Conceptualised by Sohag Sen, the play was developed through her regular theatre classes. “I like the way we develop a play. Everyone in the workshop contributes. This play is inspired by two stories Jewish Wife and Informer from Bertolt Brecht’s Fear and Misery of the Third Reich. This is a collection of his realistic plays,” she said.

Bheeti delves into the lives of intellectual upper-middle-class families. “In this play, we show the class of a professor, a teacher, a high-ranking govt employee, a social activist, and so on. The play tries to capture the impact of politics and social conditioning on regular households. It captures the lives of people who talk about the socio-economic problems but barely do anything to bring about a change. It is also about is also about armchair revolutionaries,” she said.

Sohag Sen is a regular face on TV and film. She is currently playing a key character in Cheeni on Star Jalsha. Besides, she just completed her workshop for Parambrata Chatterjee’s upcoming directorial work Ei Raat Tomar Aamar with Aparna Sen and Anjan Dutt. How does she find time? “With my television serials, I tell them well in advance on my availability. I take days off on rehearsals and show days. Before my show, I don’t get into any film commitments unless that requires only a couple of days,” she said. Bheeti will be premiered on March 9 at a theatre festival, Nadir Mancha, hosted by Nandipot. After that, there will be a show on March 27 at the Academy of Fine Arts.
