Ahead of the release of the web series Khakee: The Bihar Chapter, OTTplay spoke to actress Shraddha Das. She plays a telecom operator in the cop-crime drama, created by Neeraj Pandey and starring Karan Tacker in the lead role.

Sharing insights into her character, Shraddha said, "My character, Somya Mukherjee, is the head of a telecom operating service. She helps police officer Amit Lodha (Karan) catch criminal Chandan Mahto (played by Jatin Saran) and his gang members. Being a telecom operator, she parallelly listens to some conversations for the police officer, and at one point, she provides some crucial information about the criminal. Well, I shouldn't be disclosing anything more, otherwise I might just give away some spoilers (laughs)."

Asked about what parallel listening is all about, Shraddha added, "Parallel listening is a very special service that can only be provided to someone for official reasons. In this case, Somya gives permission to officer Amit Lodha to parallelly listen to some conversations so that he can track Chandan down. Back in the day, phone service providers like BSNL used to receive requests from special officers for permission to tap calls."

This was the scenario in the early 2000s and, of course, things are different today. "Back in the day, things were still in control and our privacy was well maintained. These days, even if you utter a word near your phone, you see ads and videos on your social media about the same topic. Now, our phone has its own mind and is constantly listening to us, even when we don't want it to," pointed out Shraddha.

Khakee: The Bihar Chapter, created by Neeraj Pandey and directed by Bhav Dhulia, is all set to release on Netflix on November 25.
