After Dev announced himself to be the newest Byomkesh Bakshi in Shadow Films’ Durgo Rohoshyo, Srijit Mukherji, who was scheduled to direct the film, called it a quit. However, Srijit will continue to direct Durgo Rohoshyo in the ninth season of Hoichoi’s web series, Byomkesh. As per sources, Anirban Bhattacharya will be seen as the sleuth. However, Ridhima Ghosh might be replaced as Satyabati.

Meanwhile, Bhaswar Chatterjee will be seen as the new Ajit – Byomkesh’s Byomkesh’s friend and assistant – in season eight – Byomkesh O Pinjrapol. Based on Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana, the show has Anirban as the creator and Sudipto Roy as the director. Ridhima continues to play Satyabati in season eight. However, according to sources, Srijit was in search of a new Satyabati. According to unauthorised sources, X=Prem-face Madhurima Basak was a contender for the character.

The shooting of season eight took place in December. If all goes well, the series will be dropped in April or May on Hoichoi.

Shadow Films owns the rights to Durgo Rohoshyo. Earlier, it was announced that Srijit would be directing the film, Durgo Rohoshyo, for the production house. However, Dev procured the film rights and emerged as the new Byomkesh. The filmmaker wanted to keep Anirban as his Byomkesh and as a result, Birsa Dasgupta became the new director of the film. Now, Srijit will be directing the same lesser-explored story on the web as the digital rights of the story is with Hoichoi. Srijit was also supposed to bring the second season of Feludar Goyendagiri with Bhuswargo Bhoyonkwar. As per sources, that, along with a number of Hoichoi’s other projects, got postponed indefinitely.
