Supriya Pathak Kapur is currently riding high on the success of her latest outing Tabbar on SonyLIV and Rashmi Rocket on ZEE5. The veteran actor has been having back-to-back OTT releases this year and she appeared in films namely The Big Bull (Disney+ Hotstar), Toofaan (Amazon Prime Video) and also Mimi (Netflix, JioCinema). Moreover, Supriya also made her web series debut with Cartel which is currently streaming on ALTBalaji and MX Player.
Now, during an exclusive interaction with OTTPlay, the Khichdi actor was asked about the OTT boom in the past year. To which Supriya stated, "I think it's a fabulous medium, I have always believed it. Because of the lockdown, because of people having to stay at home and because there were no releases, there was no other entertainment due to lots of reasons. But to me, it was a very important medium from the beginning. It has a lot of potentials. It is also scary because we have a kind of follower mentality that if one thinks others will too. I hope we don't do that."
Supriya also hopes the Indian OTT give the audiences different genres to watch because we have that prospect. The actor shared that she has not seen much of Indian OTT but when have watched the global OTT films and shows.
While praising the international content, the Wake up Sid actor added, "They are fabulous and so well made. They are talking about so many different aspects of life in different genres. I hope we can do that, too."
Talking about the content on Indian OTT, Supriya said that whatever has been released in which she has seen a little bit of most of it, is all about the underworld, the underbelly of all kinds of different areas, or marital affairs, lesbian and more. The actor added that everything seems very dark on OTT and wishes we would come to the other side.
The Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi actor further said, "There is a comedy which we haven't touched at all. I have not seen a show which has humour, which has been released recently."
On Tabbar, Supriya said, "I feel is a story of totality, there is a lot of dark, but it's a story based series and not an area-based. So I think it will be a little different."
The actor added that her show Cartel was just underworld again and now she is hoping to do a show which is different from that.
Supriya concluded by saying, "I thought because we also have the films releasing on OTT, that is good because that has a lot more diverse subjects."
