Suraj Venjaramoodu’s outings as a cop seem to work magic in the box office. After the success of Driving Licence and most recently Jana Gana Mana, the National Award-winning actor will once again be seen in khaki and boots in director Unni Govindraj’s Heaven.

The film’s co-producer AD Sreekumar tells OTTplay, “It’s a thriller in which Suraj plays the role of a circle inspector named Peter Kurushingal. Apart from the suspense elements, the movie has an emotional core and that’s what will set it apart.”

Apart from Suraj, the film also has Deepak Parambol, Sudev Nair, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sudhish, Padmaraj Ratheesh, Jaffer Idukki, Vinaya Prasad, Shruti Jayan and Reshmi Boban as part of the cast.

Heaven is scripted by Unni and PS Subramaniam, who is a circle inspector. “Though it’s a fictional story, the scriptwriter is a police officer and so, the movie has a few plot points that are drawn from his experiences investigating real-life cases,” says the producer.

The movie went on floors in January and concluded shooting a few months ago. Ernakulam and Thodupuzhu were the main locations. “Currently, the post-production work is going on and we are aiming at a theatrical release in June mid,” says the producer.

Meanwhile, Suraj will next be seen in Pathaam Valavu, which is set to hit theatres on May 13. The movie, directed by M Padmakumar and scripted by Abhilash Pillai, is based on a real-life incident. Suraj plays a convict who violates his parole in the movie, which has Indrajith Sukumaran essaying the role of a police officer. Aditi Ravi, Ajmal Amir, Major Ravi and Swasika Vijay play the other pivotal characters in the emotional thriller.

Suraj’s previous release Jana Gana Mana, which hit theatres on April 28, is still running to packed houses in various centres across Kerala. The movie had him essaying the role of an assistant police commissioner who is assigned the task of investigating the murder case of a college lecturer.
