Michelin-star chef and award-winning filmmaker Vikas Khanna, who is one of the judges of MasterChef India Season 7, shares what exactly he is looking for in the participant who has the ability to become the next MasterChef.

Asked about the special skill that he thinks is a 'must-have' in a chef, Vikas told OTTplay, "I am looking for a passionate person. They will get good training from the show and will learn some practical skills. But they have to be focused on what they are there for, because once the show goes on air and participants get huge media coverage, they tend to get lost in all the noise around them. Once you start getting a lot of attention, you might just get distracted; we have seen that in the past. I would say, be focused on what the judges are saying, and learn and use the opportunity to be observant. Those from the show in the past managed to stay focused, and really grew faster as a skilled chef."

Apart from making his mark globally as a chef, Vikas also made his directorial debut with the film The Last Color, which made it to the Oscar 2020 list of Best Film. His latest short documentary, Barefoot Empress, about a 96-year-old lady and her inspirational journey, has also won international awards.

Vikas will be judging the show along with chef Ranveer Brar and chef Garima Arora. This is the first time happening in the history of MasterChef India that a celebrated female chef like Garima is joining the gang to host and judge the cooking show.

Garima is the first ever Indian female chef to achieve Michelin-star.

MasterChef India Season 7 will air from January 2, 2023, on SonyLIV and Sony Entertainment Television.
