Last year, after the success of the Malayalam film C U Soon, which released in 2020 during the lockdown, its director Mahesh Narayanan and lead actor Fahadh Faasil said that it will be getting another instalment - a theatrical version of the movie.
The screen-based film, which was shot and released during the peak of the pandemic, opened a new horizon to Indian cinema. Recently in an interview given to Bollywood Life, Narayanan gave an update about the upcoming version of C U Soon. “We are trying for it. But, it has to be a theatrical release,” he said, when asked about the possibility of a sequel. Fahadh chimed in, “And the world needs to be open for that”.
Written, directed and edited by Mahesh, C U Soon starred Fahadh, Roshan Mathews and Darshana Rajendran. The movie produced by Fahadh Faasil and Nazriya Nazim, was released on Amazon Prime Video.
C U Soon, which was called “a small exercise” by Narayanan, was entirely shot on an iPhone. The film revolves around Jimmy, who falls in love with Anu, a girl he meets online and eventually decides to marry her. The thriller then makes the leads victims of circumstances and what follows had everyone at the edge of their seats.
The movie opened to a largely positive response. The idea of a feature film being made during the lockdown was questioned by many, including the Kerala Film Producers Association, but the film finished its shoot in August 2020. Mahesh and Fahadh’s big budget movie Malik is also currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
