The 55th Kerala State Film Awards, which honoured Mammootty with the Best Actor for the record 7th time, is largely being celebrated by fans of Malayalam cinema. But award declarations are never without a different opinion and this time around, fans say that Aavesham and Fahadh Faasil have been snubbed. Many Rangannan fans have taken to social media to decry the ‘snub’, saying that it deserved at least one recognition with the likes of Premalu winning Best Popular Film.

Kerala State Awards snubbed Fahadh Faasil’s Aavesham, say netizens

Aavesham is a 2024 hit Malayalam film, starring actor Fahadh Faasil in the lead role of gangster Rangannan. The film, helmed by Jithu Madhavan, has a strong fan following but Aavesham did not find a spot on the list of 55th Kerala State Film Awards that were announced by the state government on Monday. This has naturally upset the FaFa fans, who say they are surprised by the ‘snub’.

“Surprisingly, Aavesham and Fahadh Faasil were completely snubbed at the Kerala State Awards 2025,” reads one comment on X (formerly Twitter). “Very surprised that #Aavesham didn’t make the cut for Kerala State Awards,” reads another tweet. Fahadh's performance as the eccentric gangster, the other oddball characters, the quirky screenplay, and the music have ensured that Aavesham was a humongous hit, widely deserving of every award, fans opine.

Fans also shared scenes from Aavesham, which also featured Sajin Gopu as the oddball yet loyal aide of Rangannan.

Not just Fahadh, fans were also miffed that Sushin Shyam won the award for Bougainvillea and not Aavesham which had the chartbuster Illuminati song.

Though Fahadh Faasil did lose out on Aavesham, the Awards declaration was not a total washout for him. The actor had backed Premalu, which won the Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic value.
