While director Alphonse Puthren might have taken more than six years to begin work on his next after Premam, the filmmaker could end with two big back-to-back releases. As per reports, the director, who is currently busy with the post production of Gold, will begin shooting for Paattu, starring Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara, in April this year.

The latter project was in fact set to go on floors in 2021, with Alphonse even completing composing and recording its tracks. The filmmaker had learnt music and turned music director for the project, which had been in the pipeline for a few years now. However, with the pandemic causing a delay in other projects that its lead actors Fahadh and Nayanthara were committed to, the filmmaker decided to do Gold first.

Gold, meanwhile, is touted to be black comedy entertainer. Alphonse in a social media post had mentioned that the movie was different from his previous ventures - Neram and Premam. The movie, which has Prithviraj Sukumaran, Nayanthara, Vinay Forrt, Baburaj, Mallika Sukumaran and Ajmal Amir as part of the cast. The team had completed the shoot of the film last year.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Ajmal told us, “Gold has a unique genre. We have seen it in a lot of English films, but it’s probably the first time in Malayalam. A lot of big artistes – old and new – are part of the movie. It is a fun-packed film filled with interesting characters and situational comedy that people across age groups will be able to enjoy.”

While Gold will be Nayanthara’s next Malayalam release, Fahadh’s upcoming Malayalam movie will be the survival thriller Malayankunju, which is directed by Sajimon Prabhakar and scripted by Mahesh Narayanan. The movie, which also marks the Mollywood comeback of composer AR Rahman after three decades, is set to hit theatres in February. It will also be Fahadh’s first theatrical release in Malayalam since the pandemic.
