Fahadh Faasil, Nazriya Nazim, Tovino Thomas pay their last respects to filmmaker Sameer Thahir’s father

Noted cinematographer-director Sameer Thahir’s father Thahir Mattancherry, who had worked as a production controller in movies such as Thallumaala and Sudani from Nigeria, was laid to rest in Kochi on Wednesday. His funeral was attended by leading celebs from the Malayalam film industry including Mammootty, Tovino Thomas, Fahadh Faasil, Basil Joseph, Nazriya Nazim and Amal Neerad.

Thahir, who began his career as a location manager in movies almost three decades ago, had passed away on Tuesday reportedly due to cardiac arrest while he was on his way for the pre-production of a new film in Palakkad.

He had begun his career as a production controller in 2013 through son Sameer’s directorial debut Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, which starred Dulquer Salmaan and Sunny Wayne. Several close associates of Sameer as well as his brother Sanu Thahir, who works as an executive producer, including Ramesh Pisharody, Badushah, Jinu Joseph, Ganapathy and Jyotirmayi had turned up to pay their last respects. Thahir Mattancherry, who had also served as a production manager of movies such as Thamaaasha and Sameer, has also acted in a webseries titled Storyteller.

Sameer Thahir, who has worked as a cinematographer in movies such as Minnal Murali and Bangalore Days, was most recently attached to Fahadh’s Aavesham, which he was co-producing with the actor, Nazriya and director Anwar Rasheed. Romancham director Jithu Madhavan, who is helming the movie, had also attended to pay homage to the veteran.
