Falaque Rashid Roy has been roped in to play the lead in Joydeep Mukherjee’s FIR. The actor is excited about the film, which is set to hit the big screen during Durga Pujo. FIR stars Ankush Hazra, Ritabhari Chakraborty, Bonny Sengupta, Anirban Chakrabarti and Shantilal Mukherjee in important roles.
FIR is a crime thriller that will see her play the role of a bar dancer. Speaking to ToI, Falaque said that her character Shiuli lives in a village where the law is haywire. While she is a bar dancer by profession, personally, she is a simple and honest woman who wishes to have a family of her own. Borbaad actor Bonny Chakraborty plays her lover in the film.
“Shiuli has grown up to be a woman with quite a vigour, and a raw and rough personality,” Falaque told the daily, adding that the rough edge and brash nature of her character are because of the toxic male gaze by politicians and goons, objectifying her.
Falaque further shared that she can connect with the ‘homely’ nature of Shiuli who like any other girl has her own desires and dreams in life. Commenting on a scene from the teaser of the film where she says a line in the crude colloquial language that Shiuli speaks, Falaque said that the language is a product of the circumstances and the kind of people around her. “I can relate to the emotions and feelings, and how much she has suffered,” said Falaque.
Falaque also said that shooting with Ankush and Bonny Sengupta was a ‘fun experience' and that both of them are ‘chilled-out’ individuals who helped her lighten up during the shoot by cracking jokes. She also added that to get into the skin of her character, she took acting workshops under the National Award-winning actor Sudiptaa Chakraborty.
On the work front, Falaque has Parineeta, Mayakumari and Nirbandhamer Jora Khun in the line-up.
FIR is slated to have a theatrical release on October 10 during Durga Pujo.
