Family Drama on OTT: Debutant director Akarsh HP's comedy about a dysfunctional family is set for its OTT outing shortly

A little over a month ago, when the Kannada comedy Family Drama hit theatres, it had some buzz going for it, on account of the quirky content in the trailer and other promotional material and that it had Aachar & Co star and director Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy and Daredevil Mustafa’s Abhay on board. The reviews were also fairly encouraging, with Family Drama dubbed a fun ride. However, despite positive feedback, the film failed to click at the box office, and had to end its theatrical run only days later, much to the disappointment of the team.
All’s not lost for Family Drama yet, as the team has secured a streaming deal. Family Drama has been picked up by Amazon Prime Video and although the streamer listed it as a September 9, 2024 release, it is yet to be available. The buzz is that it will be on the platform this week and OTTplay will update as soon as it drops.
What is Family Drama about?
Family Drama, written by director Akarsh HP, follows a lower-middle-class family of 4, whose struggles for money are never ending. The main breadwinner, Prasanna (Mahadev Hadappad) heads out for work every day, with his wife and children remaining blissfully unaware of what he actually does, until after he dies unexpectedly and his clients come knocking on their door wondering if they’d do a job he’d taken up but failed to deliver on. Turns out, Prasanna was the go-to man for thugs when they needed to get rid of dead bodies and had graduated to supari killer, when he himself lost his life.
Would his wife, Lakshmi (Rekha Kudligi), daughter Divya (Sindhu) and/or son Abhay (Abhay) consider taking up this job for a fairly handsome payout? Are any of them smart enough to pull off a supari killing? This is the central crux of the film, which also stars Poorna Mysore and Aashith, among others.
