Fanatics out on OTT

It is no surprise that actors, often male ones, are considered as demigods by movie lovers in South India. The actors are worshipped as stars, and their movies are celebrated with much grandeur and effort. To highlight this and delve into the phenomenon, DocuBay has come up with a documentary feature titled Fanatics. The documentary is now available for streaming on DocuBay and the OTTplay Premium app.

The documentary feature will explore the fan culture, which includes idolising the actors to the extent that some tattoo their favourite actors and the FDFS celebrations that happen with much gala and enjoyment. From actors like Vijay Sethupathi, Kiccha Sudeepa, and Allu Arjun, to experts from various fields throwing in their perspectives, Fanatics will explore the various facets. The film is helmed by Aryan D Roy and produced by Arpita Chatterjee under the banner Studio 9.

Fanatics plot

The official synopsis of Fanatics reads, “Fanatics delves into the intense devotion of South Indian cinema fans, highlighting their struggles with extreme loyalty, self-harm, and emotional turmoil. In a world where actors are revered like deities, this documentary explores how such devotion sometimes escalates into rivalries among fan groups, leading to real-life tragedies.”

South Indian cinema has been popularly known for its fan culture which has been present since the times of MGR and Sivaji Ganesan.
