After the Academy Awards skipped mentioning Lata Mangeshkar in their In Memoriam tribute, a week later the Grammys have also followed suit.

The music awards segment, however, remembered late Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim and the Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

According to The Indian Express, Mangeshkar, as well as music composer Bappi Lahiri, were only mentioned on the Grammys website in a comprehensive list.

This omission was noticed by many Twitter users, who were miffed after the Oscars did not include the late Dilip Kumar or Mangeshkar in their homage section.

However, the 2022 British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) featured Mangeshkar in the ‘In Memoriam’ segment and said that she was “an Indian playback singer, who recorded an estimated 25,000 songs for more than 1,000 Hindi films over a career spanning 70 years."

Mangeshkar passed away on February 6 this year due to multiple organ failure after she was diagnosed with mild symptoms of COVID-19. Some of her unforgettable songs include 'Lag Jaa Gale', 'Mohe Panghat Pe', 'Chalte Chalte', 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram', 'Ajeeb Daastaan Hai', 'Pani Pani Re', among others.

Lahiri, who popularised disco music in Bollywood, died following multiple health issues at age 69.
