Magizoologist Newt Scamander and his friends are back for another adventure in the third edition of the Fantastic Beasts Series. Called The Secrets of Dumbledore, this one features a young version of the favourite Hogwarts Head Master, played by a charming Jude Law, as he has to figure out a way to halt the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald’s attempts to control the wizarding world.
The trouble is that Dumbledore and Grindelwald have a pact not to duel each other, so the former has to rely on Newt and co to save the day. Newt's brother Theseus (Callum Turner) introduces the team, played by actors Victoria Yeates, William Nadylam, Jessica Williams, and Dan Fogler. Interestingly, this edition of the fantasy prequel that is set decades before the days of Harry Potter at Hogwarts, has Mads Mikkelsen as the dark wizard and not Johnny Depp, who played the character in the first two films. Depp, as it turns out, had been asked to step down by the studio, following allegations of being ‘wife beater’.
The trailer, which dropped earlier today in English Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, introduces us to Albus Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth, has references to Quiditch game and the house points system at Hogwarts, among others. But what’s also interesting is the Muggle Jacob Kowalski is also given a wand, so that could result in some interesting magic from a non-magician.
Directed by David Yates, who helmed the earlier films too, and written by JK Rowling along with Steve Kloves, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore also stars Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler and Jessica Williams, among others, in pivotal roles. The film will open in theatres across the world on April 15, 2022.
