Raanjhanaa, featuring Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush in the lead roles, re-released in theatres last Friday. The movie was released with an AI-altered ending. Both filmmaker Aanand L. Rai and lead actor Dhanush expressed disappointment about the same, stating that the labour of their work was not appreciated by editing the scene using AI. Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar and his production Excel Entertainment's co-producer Ritesh Sidhwani spoke about the very matter at the recently held 120 Bahadur trailer launch. Here's what they said...
Farhan Akhtar stood out strongly with Aanand L. Rai in the matter. "I will always stand with the creator of the film. If the creator was unhappy about his/her work being changed, I will always support the creator. That's where my loyalty lies," the actor-filmmaker said, adding that he's not sure about the finer print of what happened in the matter, but cleared his stand.

Ritesh Sidhwani agreed with Farhan and added, "AI is something we need to embrace and use in the most effective way." The filmmaker spoke about earlier times when they did research, went to library and read a book for research purposes. He then spoke about it being replaced with a search engine. "Use AI smartly. Don't get lazy with it," he said, adding, "I absolutely agree that you cannot do this without the consent of the filmmaker." The producer clarified that while he has not seen the ending, he has heard about something like that happening. "I don’t think it's cool. If the filmmaker, actors and people involved haven't given their consent, it shouldn't be done," he stated. "AI is here but you have to use it very smartly, and use it to your advantage," Ritesh answered.
Raanjhanaa's AI-altered ending has been viral on social media. The video has received mixed reactions from netizens, but the makers Aanand L. Rai and Dhanush have clearly stood against the altered ending, which shows Kundan waking up from the coma. In fact, Dhanush even got trolled for choosing to do so. Nonetheless, the different stands of the filmmaker-actor and the distributors have caught everyone's attention.
