Universal Pictures has moved the release of Fast & Furious 10 to May 19, 2023. It was previously scheduled to hit cinemas on April 7, 2023.
According to Variety, this release window will be filled by an untitled animated film. There are no details out on this project, except that it comes from Dreamworks Animations, the studio behind Shrek.
Justin Lin, who directed F9 aka F9: The Fast Saga, the last feature in the action franchise is returning to direct. Fast & Furious 10 will see franchise regulars like Vin Diesel, Sung Kang, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Ludacris reprise their roles.
Fast & Furious 10 will be out during the summer box office season, one of the most lucrative for films. Other films releasing around the same time are Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5) and The Little Mermaid (May 26), writes Deadline.
The Fast & Furious series has been one of Universal's highest grossing and enduring franchises till date, and has had many sequels and spinoffs since the first film released almost two decades ago, notes Variety. F9 was $681.5 million at the global box office despite the pandemic affecting the movie and theatre business.
