She could effortlessly slip into any character and stunt sequences were no exception. The actress had played the titular character in the comedy flick Paati Sollai Thattathe (1988). The comedy drama featured Pandiarajan, Urvashi, Manorama and SS Chandran in the lead and was directed by Rajashekar. The story was penned by Chitralaya Gopu and was bankrolled by one of the oldest production houses in Chennai, AVM Productions.

Aruna Guhan, one of the producers and creative directors of the production house, has revealed how the legendary actress agreed to be part of the fight scene. She wrote on her social media handle, "Achi’s confidence and excellence. A story on my favourite, Manorama Achi’s fight sequence from ‘Patti Sollai Thattathey’

When the movie was being written, they included a fight scene for Manorama Achi that she did not agree to do at first. Many people in the movie industry had apparently scared her and told her not to act in fight scenes. This was the reason for her hesitation."

Aruna revealed how she agreed to be part of the crucial scene. "She came to my grandfather one day and asked, “Thambi, will it look nice if I fight?” “Will you be able to do it?” he asked her. Her interest was piqued. “Why not? I will do it,” she said with confidence. “Then, what is the problem?” was his question. “You are doing the fight!”


Manorama achi’s performance in the fight scenes was excellent. The audiences really liked the car-chase and her fight scenes in the movie.

Patti Sollai Thattathey was released on 21st July 1988 and it was a big hit that celebrated its Silver Jubilee. It was not a big-budget movie but was a great success (sic)."


The film was later remade in Telugu as Bamma Maata Bangaaru Baata (1990). The film features Bhanumathi Ramakrishna, Rajendra Prasad, Gautami and Nutan Prasad in the lead. The film was a hit in Telugu as well.
