How does it feel when an unforeseen catastrophe creates panic and chaos? Survival and evacuation from such an event become a top priority. Today’s List hai toh hit hai theme is all about the greatest disaster films made, that portray a dramatic picturization of some of the world’s most terrifying disasters, I'm your host Nikhil let’s begin!

Contagion

Released in 2011, Contagion is a thriller drama that stars an ensemble cast including Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law and Kate Winslet. The storyline depicts a lethal virus transmitted by respiratory droplets and causes widespread panic. The medical researchers and health workers struggle to stop the spread. This fictional feature film earned renewed fame because of its striking similarity between its plot and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Titanic

The 1997 American epic romantic disaster movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in the lead. This globally appreciated movie received numerous accolades for its realistic cinematography, storyline, and cast. Based on a real-life fatal shipwreck of RMS Titanic which sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912, a fictional story follows a wealthy young woman Rose who falls in love with a poor artist Jack Dawson while traveling in the RMS Titanic. When the ship hits an iceberg, it results in a struggle for survival as the ship goes down the deep waters.

The Impossible

A 2012 English disaster drama film that includes an international star cast of Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor and Tom Holland. This critically acclaimed movie sets its story based on the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami disaster. The plot follows a close-knit family with Maria, Henry and their three sons who holiday in Thailand during their winter vacation. They witness a terrifying Tsunami tidal wave that hits the deep ocean waters swallowing up everything coming its way. They strive hard to save themselves from this natural calamity.

Deepwater Horizon

Deepwater Horizon is a 2016 American disaster film starring Mark Wahlberg, Gina Rodriguez, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Dylan O'Brien, and Kate Hudson. The movie is based on the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The storyline depicts an explosion, igniting a massive fireball killing many crew members. The Chief Electronics Technician Mike Williams (Mark Wahlberg) and his peers fight for their survival as the flames begin to suffocate them.

World Trade Center

A 2006 American disaster drama movie, it stars Nicolas Cage, Maria Bello, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Peña, Stephen Dorff, and Michael Shannon. The movie is based on the disastrous 9/11 World Trade Center attack when the Twin Towers was hit by a plane killing thousands of people. The storyline in this movie is based on a few police officers who were trapped in between the ruins of the collapsed World Trade Centre.

Hotel Mumbai

Hotel Mumbai is a 2018 Indian-Australian-American co-produced * disaster film that stars Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Suhail Nayyar, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jason Isaacs and Nagesh Bhosle. The film, which premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, is based on by the 2008 Terrorist attacks at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. The film is a dramatic picturization of the chaotic events encountered by the special forces and terror-struck people inside the hotel, as they struggle their way to evacuate the premises.

Chernobyl

A 2019 historical drama television miniseries that was produced by HBO in the United States revolves around Ukraine’s Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster of 1986 and the aftermath cleanup. It features the star cast of Jared Harris as Valery Legasove, Emily Watson as Ulana and Stellan Skarsgård as Boris. The story follows Harris, Ulana, and Boris, who risk everything by investigating the truth behind the explosion and the poisonous radiation.
