The latest instalment of the John Wick franchise, John Wick: Chapter 4 continues to exceed expectations at the box office. The film starring Keanu Reeves has been widely acknowledged as the best of the franchise and is being revered as one of the best action films in recent years. So if you are a fan of John Wick films, we have curated a list of action films to watch for today’s List hai toh hit hai.

Nobody (2021) - Prime Video

Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad star Bob Odenkirk essays the role of a man who becomes the target of a ruthless crime lord in the action film Nobody. Directed by Derek Kolstad, the film follows an unassuming man who decides to return to his former life as a deadly assassin after a series of events. The film was praised for incredible action sequences and Bob Odenkirk’s emergence as an action star. The story of the film is loosely based on a home invasion that Odenkirk experienced in his own life.

The Raid (2011) - MX Player, LionsgatePlay

British filmmaker Gareth Evans’ 2011 film The Raid is an Indonesian action film that redefined the genre. The plot revolves around an elite team of agents who are tasked with taking down a ruthless drug lord and his army of armed thugs in a 15-storey building in Jakarta. The relentless action scenes and gun fights have inspired several Hollywood productions, including John Wick.

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015) - Disney+ Hotstar

Based on the comic book by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, the 2015 film Kingsman: The Secret Service tells the story of a secret spy organisation tasked with maintaining peace across the globe. They recruit a young man named Eggsy, played by Taron Egerton when a delusional and dangerous billionaire decides to kill a vast majority of the human population in the ruse of dealing with climate change. The film features a star-studded cast of Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Michael Caine, Sofia Boutella, Sophie Cookson, and Samuel L. Jackson, along with Egerton. The film features fancy gadgets and unforgettable action sequences, much like the Bond films but minus exaggerated one-dimensional villians.

The Equalizer (2014) - Netflix, Prime Video

Denzel Washington essays the lead as a man with a mysterious past and a discernable set of skills. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film follows Washington’s character who is forced to return to his old ways after he witnesses the plight of a young girl who is under the control of a violent Russian mobster. Marton Csokas, Chloë Grace Moretz, and David Harbour essay other prominent roles in this fast-paced action film. This one is surely one of the most compelling revenge thrillers of all time.

Taken (2008) - LionsgatePlay

Arguably the most popular title on this list is the 2008 film Taken, starring Liam Neeson. Directed by Pierre Morel, the action thriller follows the journey of an ex-CIA agent across Europe in search of his missing daughter. As one would expect, the film features edge-of-your-seat action sequences and has inspired several action films since its initial release. The film’s incredible success spawned two sequels and a TV show adaptation. And again, if you're a sucker for revenge films, this Liam Neeson action-thriller is going to find you, and it's going to blow your mind.

Wrath of Man (2021) - Netflix

Jason Statham has established himself as a bonafide action star in Hollywood in recent years. The 2021 film Wrath of Man is directed by Guy Ritchie, who has previously worked with Statham in other projects. The film revolves around the mysterious new driver of an armoured truck who foils a major robbery. It is later revealed that the man is on a path to exact vengeance on those who wronged him. And the film features brutal and action sequences. But if you're a fan of the Transporter star, that's all you want and all you need.

Bullet Train (2022) - Netflix

Directed by David Leitch, the black comedy action thriller, Bullet Train, stars Brad Pitt in the lead, along with an ensemble cast of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey King, Brian Tyree Henry, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon,Logan Lerman, and Sandra Bullock. The film is set in a Japanese Bullet Train which becomes the battleground for assassins, secret agents, and mobsters. Even after an underwhelming run at the box office, it has since garnered a cult following on social media and found fans after it dropped on OTT.

The Bourne Identity (2002) - Netflix, Prime Video

It is not after a film can receive more praise than the book it is adapted from, but The Bourne Identity directed by Doug Liman, certainly eclipses its source material, written by Robert Ludlum. The film redefined close-quarter-combat action sequences with its shaky camera aesthetic and is regarded as a groundbreaking action film. Matt Damon plays the lead as a CIA assassin who has lost his memory. Franka Potente, Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, and Brian Cox essay other prominent roles. Surely a film that will keep you anxious and second guessing throughout its runtime.

Well thats the List hai toh hit hai for today on OTTplay, until the next time its your host Nikhil signing out.
