As an actor, Vamshi does not have much by way of a filmography to show what he brings to the table and yet, when he pitched a story that he wanted to direct to Niveditha Shivarajkumar, daughter of Hattrick Hero Shivarajkumar, she not only came on board as producer, but was also okay with him taking on the responsibility of playing the main lead as well. And that, he says, is because all that she was concerned with was the script and she was impressed with that and confident that he could translate what he promised on paper to the screen.

During an interaction with Kannada Pichhar, Vamshi said that convincing Niveditha was not challenging at all for him. “The script and how I presented it to her was on point. And that was all that mattered to her – whether the script was good or not. She was sold on the script and was not concerned about who I am or what my background was. She was convinced that if I make the film, I will do a good job at it and went about providing the support I needed for that,” he said.

Talking about the content of Firefly, Vamshi explains that every person at some point in their lives would have painful experiences. “I have tried to bring this phase of life to the screen. When someone is sad, they will begin to think that everything but them in their surroundings is beautiful. ‘Why is everyone around so happy?’ ‘Why is the tree looking so stunning?’ What I have tried to show is an imperfect guy in a beautiful world. That’s the protagonist, Vicky,” he says.

In an earlier teaser to introduce the character, Vicky was described as a smart Maths teacher, who, strangely enough, was miserable and lonely. The film then focuses on the people he meets in his melancholic life, including Rachana Inder, Sudharani, Achyuth Kumar, Sheetal Shetty, Chitkala Biradar, among many others. Shivarajkumar, who was last seen in Bhairathi Ranagal , has a pivotal cameo in the film, which had been revealed earlier in a theatrical teaser and has now been added to the trailer too. The film hits theatres on April 24, the birth anniversary of late Kannada matinee idol, Dr Rajkumar.
