Dear Dia, the Hindi remake of the 2020 Kannada hit Dia, is gearing up for release. Last evening, the makers of the Bollywood version released the first poster of the film, which stars Mihika Kushwaha, Ujjwal Sharma and Pruthvi Ambaar. The original Kannada film Dia released shortly before the pandemic broke out in 2020 and changed the fortunes of its lead cast – Dheekshith Shetty, Kushee Ravi and Pruthvi Ambaar. While all three are sitting pretty with multiple projects in Kannada, they have also been foraying into Telugu and Tamil cinema.

Pruthvi, incidentally, is the only one from the original cast who has been retained for the Hindi remake. Dia was the story of lead heroine, Dia (Kushee), an introvert, with a crush on her college senior Rohith (Dheekshith). It is only when they meet again in Mumbai, where they both work that Dia and Rohith hit it off. But then, the duo meet with an accident, and Dia is told that Rohith did not make it. Dejected, Dia attempts to take her life, but is not saved in the nick of time by Aadi (Pruthvi), with whom she begins to enjoy life again.

In a strange twist, then, Rohith returns to Kushee’s life. The rest of the narrativewas about who Dia would choose, making it one of the most highly-rated films of 2020. Pruthvi reprises his role from the original in the Hindi remake.

Dear Dia, which has been shot across locations in Lucknow, Dehradun and Mussoorie, is now rumoured to be a summer of 2022 release.
