Khichdi is an Indian television show that originally aired in 2002 but is still lauded for its comedic characters and witty one-liners. Created by Aatish Kapadia, Khichdi stars Anang Desai, Supriya Pathak, Rajeev Mehta, Vandana Pathak and Richa Bhadra, among others. The show centers around the quirky and comedic Parekh family and how the members navigate through different situations.

Khichdi quickly gained widespread popularity upon its release, and the second season of the show was released in 2004. The show then made the big leap to the silver screen in 2010, which was followed by a sequel in 2023.

Khichdi’s witty catchphrases

The show became widely popular for its iconic catchphrases, such as “Praful tu to gadha hai gadha,” by Bapuji every time Praful feeds his illogical English translations to Hansa. Hansa’s “Hello .. how are you… khaana khaake jaana.. .,” became a one-liner that got stuck to every Indian’s psyche as she would use this dialogue to welcome all the guests that would enter their house.

Crossover episodes

Khichdi would sometimes have a crossover episode with other television shows, one of which was the memorable Sarabhai vs Sarabhai episode. The episode brought together actors from both the shows, resulting in hilarious situations and funny banter that was a delight to watch on screen.

Khichdi Returns Season 2

The makers of Khichdi brought back all the nostalgic memories of the fun old days when they revealed that the show is returning with its second season titled Khichdi Returns. Even while introducing new characters and more comedic angles, the show was still a laugh riot which was appreciated by many.

Khichdi, the movie

Aatish Kapadia levelled up the series and created a Bollywood film. The 2010-released film, Khichdi: The Movie, continued to portray the Parekh family and their funny antics. The story revolves around the Parekh family and their fun and adventurous journey while going to a resort. Though the film did not become a box office hit, it was appreciated by the audience for bringing back nostalgic memories and staying true to the essence of Khichdi.

Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan

Released in 2023, Khichdi 2, directed by Aatish Kapadia, again followed the Parekh family as they land up on an isolated island called Paanthukistan. The members plot a strategy to replace the original ruler of the island with Praful as the two have similar facial features and the misadventures that follow form the crux of the film.
