Come what may, Sankranthi is a festival that people in Telugu states hold close to their heart, returning to their home towns, bonding over fun, frolic, food and the movies. This is more evident when you notice the number of Telugu film releases slated for Sankranthi in 2022, even when the threat of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic looms large. If you don't think theatres are a safe bet for watching movies this festival season, we take you through all the Telugu OTT releases across various platforms you shouldn't miss this weekend.

Anthahpuram - January 13

The Telugu dubbed version of Aranmanai 3, the third instalment of the popular horror comedy franchise, Anthahpuram revolves around a spirit of a dead girl that haunts several family members in a bungalow. They take help from a temple priest, who claims to have powers to tame the ghost. Will he discover the true motive behind the spirit? What's the backstory of the girl? Directed by Sundar C, the film stars Arya, Raashii Khanna in the lead roles besides Vivekh, Andrea Jeremiah, Sampath, Manobala, Yogi Babu, Vela Ramamoorthy, Sakshi Agarwal and Nalini in key roles.

Pelli SandaD - January 14 

Directed by Gowri Ronanki and supervised by veteran filmmaker K Raghavendra Rao, Pelli SandaD is a family entertainer that takes viewers through the trials and tribulations of its lead character Vasishta, a basketball enthusiast, to win over the love of his life. He faces considerable opposition from the latter's father, but triumphs with his wit and muscle. Stars Roshann, Sree Divya in the lead, the film has Jhansi, Rao Ramesh, Prakash Raj, Vennela Kishore and Posani essaying supporting roles. MM Keeravaani's memorable soundtrack is one of its major highlights.

Skylab - January 14 

Directed by debutant Vishvak Khanderao, Skylab is a story of story of how the failure of a US-based satellite has its repurcussions in Bandalingampally, a remote village in Telangana. The film has a novel premise, entertaining and witty all the way, featuring terrific performances by Satyadev, Rahul Ramakrishna, and Nithya Menen (who also co-produced it under her banner Nithya Menen Company). Inspired by incidents surrounding the fear of NASA’s space station Skylab crashing in Karimnagar in 1979, the film has music by Prashanth R Vihari.

The American Dream - January 14

The Indo-American production, featuring Prince Cecil, Neha Krishna in the lead roles, is written and directed by Vignesh Kaushik. The story revolves around Rahul, who has rosy dreams about his life in the US and needs to confront several hardships, taking up odd jobs to fend for himself in an alien nation. He meets a rich girl Riya in a pub and has a fling with her. He accidentally kills someone while driving Riya's car. Life is never going to be same for the young man again. How does he move past this obstacle? Raviteja Mukkavalli and Subhalekha Sudhakar play important roles.
