Global recognition is shining on Indian talent in the entertainment industry. Actors, directors, writers, producers, and also musicians are making waves on the international stage, and films with diverse casts are becoming quite common. Bollywood, the industry which is famous for its captivating productions, intellectuality, romantic genre, and artistic films, has also birthed some of cinema's most respected directors, with legends like Guru Dutt, Satyajit Ray, and Bimal Roy earning admiration even in Hollywood.

So here we have come up with five renowned directors from India, who have given outstanding English films in Hollywood as well:

Shekhar Kapur

The 77-year-old director has garnered critical acclaim for Naseeruddin Shah-starrer Masoom (1983) and Anil Kapoor-starrer Mr. India (1987). After making several other remarkable Bollywood films, Kapur directed Cate Blanchett-starrers Elizabeth (1998) and Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007) in Hollywood. Even this year, his Lily James-starrer What's Love Got To Do With It? has ruled everyone's hearts.

Ritesh Batra

The 44-year-old director’s Irrfan Khan-starrer The Lunchbox (2013) has garnered immense appreciation. In Hollywood, Batra directed Our Souls At Night ((2017), which stars Robert Redford and Jane Fonda.

Mira Nair

This 66-year-old director garnered immense applause for Salaam Bombay (1988) and Irrfan Khan-starrer The Namesake (2006). Apart from several artistic films in India, she has directed Richard Gere-starrer adventure-drama Amelia (2009).

Bornila Chatterjee

This Kolkata-born director has garnered immense appreciation for Naseeruddin Shah-starrer The Hungry (2017) in Bollywood. Being a true cinematic chameleon, she has directed Let's Be Out, The Sun Is Shining (2012) in Hollywood.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra

This 71-year-old director doesn't need any special introduction, isn't it? Each and every Indian knows him very well. From Anil Kapoor’s Parinda (1988), 1942: A Love Story (1994), Hrithik Roshan’s Mission Kashmir (2000), Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003), 3 Idiots (2009) to Sanju (2018), Chopra has given numerous prodigious films in Bollywood. But did you know, he has also directed Vincent D'Onofrio-starrer Broken Horses (2015) in Hollywood, which is inspired by Parinda?
