From TVF’s Aspirants to Karnan: IMDb unveils top 10 most popular Indian titles in 2021 so far

From critically acclaimed projects to underdogs, IMDb has released a list of the most popular Indian movies and web shows which. Keep reading to know more.

According to IMDb's pro data, which is based on the number of page views of IMDb users in India, a list of top Indian web series and films in 2021 so far has been curated. The list features a few surprises and a few projects are known names. Let's take a look at the top 10 most popular titles-

Master - Amazon Prime Video

Vijay stars as a depressed alcoholic professor who is sent to a juvenile centre school to teach kids in Master. He soon clashes with Bhavani, a deadly gangster who is exploiting the kids there for his gains. The film has funny moments but also sensitively deals with the issue.

Aspirants - TVF & YouTube

Created by Arunabh Kumar, Aspirants is a web series starring Naveen Kasturia, Namita Dubey, Abhilash Thapliyal, Shivankit Parihar and Sunny Hinduja. It revolves around three friends who are UPSC aspirants and the journey of their friendship. 

The White Tiger - Netflix

Based on the book by Aravind Adiga, the movie revolves around Balram who is an ambitious driver for a rich family. He rises above poverty to become an entrepreneur. The White Tiger propelled Adarsh Gourav to new heights - he played the protagonist and was also nominated for the BAFTA in the category of Best Actor. 

Drishyam 2 - Amazon Prime Video

Drishyam 2 was touted as a great sequel where Mohanlal reprises his role of Georgekutty to save his family from yet another criminal investigation. Other than the murder-mystery aspect, the film also explores the philosophy behind crime and punishment.

November Story - Disney+ Hotstar

In this Tamil web series, Tamannaah Bhatia plays the role of Anuradha, the daughter of a famous crime writer who is suffering from Alzheimer's. He is found at a crime scene with no recollection of what transpired. Anuradha sets out to prove her father’s innocence.  

Karnan - Amazon Prime Video

Karnan is a seething social commentary with intelligent usage of animals to metaphorically depict the state of mind of its characters. The filmmakers’ smart usage of low angles to portray the struggles of the downtrodden who were oppressed by the upper classes is poignant. Dhanush rages with palpable energy and channels the fury of the audience with the increasing abject hopelessness and the consequent rise in frustration. 

Vakeel Saab - Amazon Prime Video

In this Telugu remake of Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Pink, Pawan Kalyan reprises the role of Amitab Bacchhan. The film also stars Shruti Haasan, Prakash Raj, Nivetha Thomas amongst others.

Maharani - SonyLIV

Huma Qureshi portrays the role of a housewife in Bihar who goes on to become the chief minister. She proceeds to fight dirty politicians and patriarchal norms. 

Krack - Aha Video

In this Gopichand Malineni movie, Ravi Teja plays the role of a short-tempered police officer who takes up the challenge of defeating Katari Krishna, a gangster.  

The Great Indian Kitchen - Amazon Prime Video

Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen is an atmospheric experience with well fleshed out characters who feel absolutely real. Nimisha Sajayan plays the character of the wife, who finds that the traditional life that conforms to societal norms is not for her.
