Holi is an auspicious festival as well as an occasion for celebration with friends and family. According to the myth of the evil Holika, sister of Hiranyakashipu, sits in a burning pyre with her nephew Prahlad in her lap. Though the former was blessed with immunity from fire, the ultimate victory of good over evil is a reason for celebration for every generation. Here are 5 Bollywood films that will make your Holi with friends, family, or by yourself, better.

The film starring Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff, and Vaani Kapoor is a taut thriller, full of epic dance scenes and action sequences. After all, a film featuring both Shroff and Roshan is bound to be full of exceptional dance numbers and War does not disappoint in that, or the action department. Its iconic dance number Jai Jai Shivshankar is a song set in Holi, in which a team of Indian Raw agents enjoy the festival of colors with groovy dance numbers.

2. Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani (Prime Video, Netflix)

The vacation film of our dreams, or at least the 2010s was Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin, and Aditya Roy Kapoor in the leading roles. Other than a nostalgic exploration of friendship, mountain trips, romance, and dreams, the film’s Holi number, Balam Pichkari has been on every Holi playlist since release. Featuring an exciting celebration of Holi in a mountainous town, the song’s lyrics and steps are equally memorable.

3. Goliyon ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (Jio Cinema, Prime Video)

A Bollywood adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial stars the dreamy couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in the leading roles of Ram and Leela. Featuring sizzling chemistry, a passionate love affair, and a daring revenge thriller, the film can be watched time and again, especially for the first time Ram and Leela meet. The Holi song Lahu Munh Lag Gaya is a sensual number, highlighting the passion and nuanced eroticism of the festival, further highlighted by the instant attraction between arch nemesis Ram and Leela.

4. Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya (Prime Video, Netflix)

Badrinath Ki Dulhania’s title song, Badri Ki Dulhania is a Holi number, which gives the perfect colorful vibes with thematic traditional Indian lehenga outfits. The film’s feel-good, romantic yet inspiring premise further adds to the film’s appeal and features iconic dance numbers. Starring Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sahil Vaid, and Rituraj Singh in the leading roles, the Shashank Khaitan-direction must not be missed.

5. Padmaavat (Prime Video)

A historical fiction drama based on the epic poem by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, Padmavaat is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and boasts of all his trademark grandeur and style. Starring Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Jim Sarbh, Anupriya Goenka and Aditi Rao Hydari in the leading roles, the film’s Holi number is a soulful rendition of the Manganiyars and Langa’s Folk Song, which emphasizes the searing, sensual chemistry between onscreen husband and wife, Deepika Padukone’s Rani Padmavati and Shahid Kapoor’s Maharaja Ratan Singh of Mewar.
