Actor Diganth Manchale suffered a serious spinal cord/cervical while vacationing in Goa on Monday, June 20. The actor was airlifted soon after to Bengaluru from Goa for further and is currently receiving due care at the Manipal Hospitals on Old Airport Road.
Reports reveal that the cause of the injury is an attempted somersault that went wrong while on a trampoline, which caused the Gaalipata 2 actor to land on his back. Diganth would reportedly complain of numbness in his fingers and due to lack of proper medical care in the vicinity, he had to be airlifted to Bengaluru.
Speaking to the Times News Network, Diganth's father-in-law shared that the sustained injury is a "bit serious" as the fall impacted his cervical vertebrae and left from the Dabolim Airport around 3 pm on Tuesday. Diganth was holidaying in Goa with his wife and fellow actor Aindrita Ray.
Filmmaker and friend Yogaraj Bhat, who was present at the Bengaluru hospital, addressed the media on Tuesday evening to share an update regarding Diganth’s condition. He said, “Diganth has been taken inside the OT (operation theatre) for his surgery but his condition is quite stable. He has been interacting with us quite normally and there is nothing to worry about. This is just a minor sports-related injury that he sustained in Goa while attempting a somersault. And with him being a fitness enthusiast, this can be considered a rather small one – and there is no injury to the spinal cord, contrary to the rumors”. Diganth is being treated by Dr. Vidyadhara S, HoD & Consultant Spine Surgeon at the Manipal Hospitals.
Diganth Manchale and Yogaraj Bhat have previously on four different films and are now geared up for the release of their fifth collaboration in the form of Gaalipata 2, also starring Golden Star Ganesh, Pawan Kumar, Sharmiela Mandre, Vaibhavi Shandilya, Anant Nag, and others.
In 2016, Diganth suffered a serious injury in his right eye while shooting for the Bollywood film Ticket to Bollywood when his costar, reportedly, threw a stiletto at him. The blow is said to have caused permanent damage to the eye.
