Gaalipata 2 on OTT: Ganesh’s film with Yogaraj Bhat to stream by the third week of September?

For Kannada audiences, the Yogaraj Bhat-Ganesh combination spells magic. There are expectations when they get together to make films – something they kickstarted with their superhit movie, Mungaru Male. Their second collaboration was a film called Gaalipata way back in 2008, which was also a box office success, but, more importantly, hailed for its subject that dwelt on the friendship of three guys and its soulful music, several tunes of which remain evergreen.

Ever since Yogaraj and Ganesh announced a fourth film together and that too, one named Gaalipata 2, expectations have been sky high. And the film, which released in theatres on August 12, has more or less lived up to that. Conservative estimates put the film’s theatrical share at a tad under Rs 10 crore, with the satellite, digital and audio rights amount extra. The Hindi dubbing rights are yet to be sold, so, the film produced by Ramesh Reddy is already in profit.

Zee Network had scooped up the satellite and digital rights, but have not announced when the film, which also stars Diganth, Pawan Kumar, Anant Nag, Vaibhavi Shandilya, Samyuktha Menon and Sharmiela Mandre, among others, will hit TV or OTT. Industry insiders say that the film could drop on OTT by the second or third week of September, roughly between September 9 and 16.

When we checked with director Yogaraj about this he said he was not sure by when it would be on OTT, but said that he has asked the network to wait long enough for the film to gets its due at the box office. Another source told us that the agreement is for 40 days, which would make sense for a third week of September OTT outing.

However, considering that mid-September is exam season in schools, Gaalipata 2 may be delayed to the end of September on OTT, as a Dasara release instead. We will keep you updated as soon as we hear more on this.
