Kannada filmmaker Yogaraj Bhat’s romantic drama Gaalipata 2, the sequel to his 2008 film Gaalipata, which has Ganesh, Diganth and Pawan Kumar in the lead, along with Vaibhavi Shandilya, Samyukta Menon and Sharmiela Mandre, is releasing in theatres on August 12. According to reports, the satellite and digital rights of the film, produced by Ramesh Reddy, have already been sold for fairly good amounts, which the team remains tight-lipped about. Gaalipata 2 has been sold to Zee Kannada and Zee5 respectively for satellite and digital outings. There is no word on how soon after the theatrical release the film will begin streaming, but Zee5 is where it is headed.

Earlier today, taking to social media, lead actor Ganesh shared a poster of the film that read ‘Get ready to fly on August 12’, along with a note that said, “Mark the date. August 12th” to announce Gaalipata 2’s theatrical release date. This is Ganesh’s fourth film with Yogaraj Bhat, after Mungaru Male, Gaalipata and Mugulu Nage. The film also stars Vaibhavi Shandilya, Samyuktha Menon and Sharmiela Mandre in the lead, while Nishvika Naidu and Anant Nag will be seen in pivotal roles.

Gaalipata 2 is the much-awaited sequel to the 2008 release Gaalipata. Ganesh, Diganth and Anant Nag were in the original film as well. The sequel, which has music by Arjun Janya and cinematography by Santhosh Rai Pathaje is also the last film featuring the late Bullet Prakash. Yogaraj was earlier planning to release the film at the end of May or early June, before Rakshit Shetty’s 777 Charlie, but industry insiders say that the unseasonal rains now, which may culminate in an early onset of the monsoon, has got the team to alter plans. The filmmaker’s August 12 choice is a fortnight after Sudeep’s Vikrant Rona.
