While on one hand, the Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer film in on a record creating and cord breaking spree at the box office, on the other hand, musician Uttam Singh had blasted the film’s makers in an interview with Amar Ujala.
In the said interview, Uttam Singh (in Hindi) said that they (the film’s makers) had not only called him for ‘Gadar 2’, but also used two of his songs and also the background music which he had composed. He had said that the film’s makers should have at least had the decency / etiquette to ask him once and speak to him before using his tracks in the film.
Meanwhile, Anil Sharma, who happens to be the director of ‘Gadar’ and ‘Gadar 2’ gave his reply to the aforesaid allegation in an interview with The Times Of India. Anil Sharma, in the said interview said that, he had shown all the songs to Uttamji (Uttam Singh) and that the one thing that truly surprised / shocked him was that, Uttam Singh had given such a statement. He added that, technically, the rights were with the label and he was shocked to hear such a thing from Uttam ji, with who, he is having a close bond. He also added that, now that he is aware (of the accustations), he will surely speak to him (Uttam Singh).
In the same interview, Mithoon (the music composer of ‘Gadar 2’) said that, since the rights were with the musical label, the permission to recreate the songs was needed from the original music composer. He added that, he had spoken to the film’s makers to speak to the original creator (Uttam Singh) and ensure that he (Uttam Singh) was given due credit. Mithoon also added that, Anil Sharmaji had told him that he had spoken to the original creator (Uttam Singh) and had showed him his (Mithoon) work and that he was even told that Uttamji had liked what had been done. That’s why he (Mithoon) said that he was really wondering as to why such conversation was taking place now. He also clarified that, he has a legacy of (creating) original music, which he enjoys.
