The upcoming Malayalam film Gaganachari's makers have confirmed that it will soon be released on theatres. They have not, however, disclosed the precise date of the theatrical release. In the upcoming days, more updates are anticipated.

In this science fiction film, Gokul Suresh, Aju Varghese, Anarkali Marikar, and Ganesh Kumar play the main roles. Arun Chandu has directed Gaganachari, after Saajan Bakery and Sayanna Varthakal. He and Siva Sai co-wrote the movie's screenplay.

Gaganachari set in a dystopian backdrop

With the potential of a never-seen-before science fiction fantasy movie in Malayalam, the trailer for Gaganachari was released last year. With themes like aliens and dark matter, the trailer offers something fresh to the Malayalam audience. The movie takes place in a dystopian setting in 2043. The trailer, which features a post-apocalyptic timeline, combines dark humour and science fiction elements.

Following pandemic protocol, the majority of the film was filmed in Kochi during the lockdown. The producers established an artificial bubble and selected a Kochi island as one of the shooting locations to guarantee a secure atmosphere. Additionally, scenes from Bengaluru, Dhanushkodi, and Ernakulam are included in the film.

Anarkali previously acknowledged in an interview with OTTplay that she plays an alien in this film, a role that has never been attempted in Mollywood.

Director Arun Chandu clarified in an exclusive conversation with OTTplay that he is depicting a submerged Kerala that is comparable to the state's 2018 floods. "There are many realistic and humorous elements in this film that will appeal to a broad audience. No matter where they live or what their cultural background is, anyone can relate to the impromptu humour used in it," he said.

Rave response for Gaganachari in film festivals

Prior to its release, Gaganachari had already won numerous international accolades. It was recognised by nine other international film festivals, including several prestigious ones in New York and London, and took home the title of "Best Film" at the Art Blocks International Film Festival in Copenhagen.
