After ruling over Bollywood for decades, it seems that Madhuri Dixit has set her sights on taking over OTT. After her stellar debut in The Fame Game, Dixit will next be seen in Amazon Prime Video’s first Indian Amazon Original movie, Maja Ma. The upcoming film will also star Gajraj Rao in a pivotal role, who will essay the role of Manohar Patel, husband to Dixit’s character and a beaming father in anticipation of his son’s wedding. The actor recently opened up about the project, and why he chose to say yes to the role.

The actor revealed that the role was offered to him in the middle of the pandemic, at a time when he was afraid to take up projects. He said that he was not sure about saying yes to it, but things had worked out well in the end and he had had a terrific time working on the film. “To do a project at such a stressful time, but still having a blast with the terrific people working alongside you, and having it turn out so well, is an experience I shall never forget. It was such a celebration of life”, he said.

Opening up about his role, he revealed that his role was narrated to be that of a ‘life partner’, a person who would weather through the good and the bad with their partner. Rao had tried to emulate just that in his character, which turned out to be an easy thing to do since his co-star was Dixit. “It is a beautifully written character, and as much as I've seen of it, the audience will also enjoy the relationship between us”, he added.

The upcoming film also features Ritwik Bhowmik, Barkha Singh, Srishti Shrivastava, Rajit Kapur, Sheeba Chadha, Simone Singh, Malhar Thakar and Ninad Kamat in pivotal roles.

Maja Ma will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 6.
