Voluminous hair, punk rock music and neon clothes - it’s 1984 and Wonder Woman is back as Diana Prince, a superhero-demigoddess in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984. Amazon Prime Video is bringing the magic of the DC Extended Universe to Indian audiences by streaming the movie from May 15.
Set in the era of the Cold War, the second instalment in the Wonder Woman franchise follows Diana and her beloved Steve Trevor as they attempt to defeat Maxwell Lord and Cheetah. The last time audiences saw Diana was in Wonder Woman (2017) when she helped turn the tide in World War I.
Roughly 60 years later, audiences will see Diana up against two new villains: Cheetah and Maxwell Lord, played by Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal.
Wonder Woman 1984 is directed by Patty Jenkins, who also helmed the 2017 movie. The film brings back the love of Diana’s life, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) who audiences bid a sad farewell to in the last film.
Released theatrically in December 2020, Wonder Woman 1984 has been praised for its action-packed narrative and immersive plot. It was recently revealed that the initial plan was to include DC villain Duke of Deception as the antagonist of the film, but they ultimately decided to go with Maxwell Lord.
Gadot truly embodied being a superhero, both on and off screen, when she shot scenes for the 2017 movie while being five months pregnant.
Jenkins and Gadot are set to reunite for the period biographical drama Cleopatra. Scripted by Laeta Kalogridis, the movie is expected to release later this year.
Wonder Woman 1984 will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video from May 15. The streaming service will also make the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubs of the film available for regional audiences.
