In just over two weeks, Kannada cinema’s late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar will grace the big screen yet again. This time, though, it is for a special cause. Puneeth will be seen in the docu-feature Gandhada Gudi, which he had made in association with national award winning documentary maker Amoghavarsha. Gandhada Gudi was Puneeth’s dream project – one that he was immensely excited to have been a part of and took special pride in. The feature length documentary had him travel across the length and breadth of Karnataka to highlight its forests and wildlife. Puneeth was all set to present the teaser of the film on November 1 last year, when he passed away on October 29.

Gandhada Gudi is now ready to hit screens. It comes to theatres on October 28, on the occasion of the actor’s first death anniversary. This is Puneeth’s third and final big screen outing. His last solo-hero film, James, came out on his birthday, while Lucky Man, the Kannada remake of Oh My Kadavule, had him playing god, a role that his fans absolutely adored. This one, though, was close to his heart, as Gandhada Gudi would not only show the beauty of Karnataka to the world, but also give Puneeth’s fans a glimpse into who HE is.

In the run-up to the film’s release, a pre-release event is being organized on October 21 that will have the who’s who of Karnataka’s social and political sphere in attendance. While several big names from Kannada films will be there, netizens have called for Sandalwood to turn up en masse as a tribute to the late Power Star. It’s the least they can do for him, reckons Twitterati.

Puneeth’s heroines from his early days, Ramya and Rakshitha have already confirmed their presence at the event, but it is the A-list actor category that netizens have trained their eyes on. “Sudeep, Yash, and Darshan should be at the event as a mark of respect for Appu,” is the common sentiment of most comments.

Menwhile, the trailer, which was released on October 9, has already garnered over 10 million organic views.
