Gandhi: Hansal Mehta spills the beans about Pratik Gandhi's web series; says 'The idea is to humanise...'

Hansal Mehta, known for his projects like Shahid and Scam 1992 - The Harshad Mehta Story, will soon come up with his new web show. The director has shot a series, Gandhi, based on the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi). It will feature actor Pratik Gandhi in the lead role. In a recent interview, Hansal spilled beans about his web show, which is currently in post-production.

Hansal Mehta has practiced his way of exploring the complexities of his protagonists with his upcoming series, Gandhi. Speaking with Mid-Day, the director shared, "When we make films on real people, they often become hagiographies. But [my] attempt is to create a well-rounded character. I did it with Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story [2020] and you’ll see that with Gandhi also."

He further revealed a learning that he applied to his new project. According to him, the best way to engage audiences with a character is by humanising him/her. "The idea is to humanise your characters. You will not feel for the character if you don’t see him as a whole, with his goodness and flaws, his failings and successes," added Hansal.

For those unaware, music maestro AR Rahman collaborated with Hansal Mehta for the series, which will drop on streaming soon. Rahman has worked on the music of Pratik Gandhi-starrer. This announcement was made on Gandhi Jayanti in 2024.

While sharing this news, Hansal captioned his Instagram post: "Maestro A.R. Rahman joins Team Gandhi! On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, we remember the Mahatma and are thrilled to announce this very special collaboration! (sic)."

Hansal's next with Pratik was wrapped up by August 2024. The series also stars Pratik's wife Bhamini Oza as Kasturba Gandhi. The international star cast of the show includes Tom Felton, Libby Mai, Lindon Alexander, Jonno Davies, Simon Lennon and others.
